I am saddened that I cannot participate in the audience of
fashion week. However, YouTube makes life easier on us and covers portions of
the highly anticipated catwalks. What I would do without YouTube? The world may
never know.
Watching day one wasn’t as exciting as I expected it would
be. With one of my favorite designers walking today I thought it would be a
great opening day. However it wasn’t the case, it was a major flop.
With Nicholas K starting out the day, here is what I have to
report. The Nicholas K collection was filled with a western, neutral color
pallet; bold statement necklaces, metallic tassel shirts, leather pants, rugged
boots, and low back cut shirts. The main statement accessory was the western
hat. For makeup, models sported
dark lips. Hair was short sleek, straight cut. Really loved this collection.
Next in line is BCBG Max Azria. This was the collection that
I was excited to see. However, I was not all that thrilled. This collection is
one of the most affordable couture brands. Azrias collection felt as we were
reliving the 70s era. With color blocking as a huge trend, the color pallet
consisted of deep teals and burnt oranges. In the mix also included patchwork
furs. This collection was more of a work style with sophisticated silky, flowy
trousers. The materials included sheer chiffon. Models hair was simple pulled
back ponytails, and natural fresh-faced makeup.
With a fashionably late start in the Richard Chai runway
show. I must say this was my least favorite runway of the day. His work
consisted of urban stripes in mostly navy, gray, and black. Later in the
collection he included red floral patterns. His looks were urban–inspired that
included boxy coats with oversized pockets. My favorite item was a black high
waist skirt that had settle ruffles on the top trim. Models hair was tousled
and makeup was natural.
Concluding the day we had Tadashi Shoji. Shoji’s collection
was my personal favorite. The collection was romantic and glamorous with a hint
of sexy. Materials that were incorporated are; lace, velvet, and floral flowy
satin. Hints of the 20’s era were present. Exaggerated open back as well as
Cinderella ball gown tulle dresses completed this collection. Models makeup looks were definitely in
the spirit of Valentines Day. They styled bold red lips!
